tipping servers
i work in a restaurant Chilis, i am a host there. it is probably one of the easiest jobs, but one of the most stressful jobs. It's stressful because customers always complain about where you seat them and servers always complain about what customers you give them because they want a good tip. A lot of people do not realize that the money servers make come from tips, not their hourly wage. Their tips cancel out the money they would make hourly. For example, if a server makde $5 an hour and worked 5 hours, that would $25. If they made $25 for their tips that day, that cancels out the hourly wage, so there for their check would $0. So all their money they make comes from tips not hourly. What i do not get is how people have the money to go out to eat and not have the money to tip people. I see it happen everyday. If you $70 on a meal but only have enough money to leave a $4 tip, then dont get $70 worth of food. That tip is hurting the server and they are not making any money. A lot of people think that servers make hourly wage plus tips so it is ok to tip low, but it is not true. It really frustrates me that people go out and spend all that money and do have enough money to tip. I use to do that when i was younger, but since i have worked in a restaurant i have learned how it works and tipping is a very important thing when it comes to going to eat. So next time you go out to eat, think bout that.

week 7?...writing in progress
I think so far that my writing has gotten better since I have been in this class. We focus on a lot in this class and how to make us better writers which is why I think I am getting better. Before this class I was having trouble working on focus. I like to talk a lot when I write papers and babble on and get side tracked which is not what you are suppose to do in papers. I realized that being focused on just what you are talking about helps the reader understand the reading better and the point that you are trying to get a crossed. When I wrote the rough draft at first, I confused the reader because I had about 3 different ideas that I was trying to point out to the reader and they did not understand what I was trying to say. After conferencing I realized what I needed to do and I fixed it and now understand how to focus on a topic in the future. Also I thought the conferencing helped me a lot. I thought talking through with Stephanie helped me understand exactly what she was looking for. I really like the process in the way we write papers. I like how we classmates helped each other out and got insights on what other people thought. When you write your own papers and fix it yourself, you are probably not going to fix much because you are the one who wrote and you think it is good. Having different opinions is very helpful.

week 6: texting and driving
Texting and driving is probably one of the things that is killing a lot of people these days. Teenagers and even adults do not get the fact the texting while driving is very dangerous. I am not going to lie I do it all the time. But I am going to try my hardest to stop because I know it is not good to do. My dad just told me the other day that they faceted that texting and driving is worse than drinking and driving. When I heard that, I made me really scared and want to be really cautious of texting in the car. It is very tempting to do. You will just be driving and then you hear your phone ring and you just wonder who is it and what they are saying. You are wondering if it is really important, so you just take a quick glance at it. That one decision could ruin the rest of your life and you might not realize that. My friend during the month of March this year was on my way to my house and she called me saying that she just got into a wreck because she was texting. Her car was totaled. I am just thankful that she did not get hurt. Sometimes you might catch yourself not driving good, and then you really need to realize that you probably should not be texting. So all I am saying is be careful while texting and driving because one second of looking at your phone could ruin your life.

week 5: Notes i wrote in middle school
So the other day I was cleaning my room (which took about 4 hours I should say) and I found a box of all my notes that I had lying under my bed from my middle school days. Of course I had to read them and just laugh about the stuff I use to write to my friends. The language I used when writing to them was so funny. I would try and shorten everything I write. Instead of writing the word Like, I would write it as Lyk. Why? I have no idea. I guess it was the cool thing to write back in the day. Half of the notes I read were not even about anything important. They would just say “hey whats up?” or in some letters I read my friends would say “hey whats poppin?” I do not even get why we would talk like that. Then the rest of the notes would say yea so I am in class right now bored out of my mind so I am writing to you to see whats up, and yea you should def write me back so I have something to read. Then you would see like picture at the bottom of your name in bubble letters or something. Then I kept cleaning my room and I found out this print out of a conversation I had online with my ex-boyfriend in 7th grade. I was talking about how we broke up and why and the stuff we said to each other was so middle school language, it just made me laugh so much. The stuff I said to him is not what I would say to people now. Some of the stuff it said was like, “I can’t be friends with you now since we broke up, it is just too hard.” Even thought we only dated for like a month, it was just too hard for me back then I guess. And other stuff said well he said and she said drama like that. I just really enjoyed reading my old letters to my friends and my e boyfriends.

Construction in Peoria
Construction in Peoria is really bad. Every time I go out on the road I find myself having to enter into one lane because they are working on the other side of the road. When everyone is on one side of the road, the traffic tends to go a lot slower. Sometimes you do not even move and when you are by yourself, which most of the time I am, it tends to get really boring. What really bothers me the most is when they work on a street and they finish it, well you think they do, and then they go back like 3 days later and block the whole road again. When I am going to school, I leave at a certain time that I know I will get to class on time, but I always seem to run into construction somewhere that I have never seen before and it makes me late to school. This is just not once in awhile. It is every day. I am not saying construction is a bad thing, because we do need some stuff done, but I think they can find a way for traffic to not be so bad, or at least let people know where they are working so people who take their usual route can find another route to go. I always think War Memorial is done, so I always go that way but they are always working on it again. I do not get why they do not finish what they need to finish when they are there the first time. It gets really frustrating.

week 4:case study me as a writer
Sometimes writing for other classes makes me realize that writing is everywhere you go. Taking a writing class only betters you. So far I have used writing in every class so far. Over the weekend I had to a take home test in art. We had to write about the different eras of art. I ended up writings six pages of it. Having to write a lot of researches papers in my past really made this paper easy because I knew exactly how much I needed to say and how to go on to the next thing. I also had to write 3 reports for math over the weekend. I never really thought that I would have to write anything for math but I guess it does exist. I work at Chilis. I am a host there. I even had to write stuff for there. One time I had to write about my position and what they expected from me. Also a lot of times whatever you are involved in, they always want feedback and always ask you “how did this make you feel?” or “what can we do to make things better?” “What did you like about it?” I find myself answering these questions all the times at places or events I have been to. For college, you always have to write and tell them things about you and why they should allow you to come to that school. If you did not know how to write, that would show in what you wrote and that would make them think that you did not do that well in school, because writing is everywhere in school, work, home, ect.

week 3: Gay people
I want to share my beliefs on gay people. I truly believe that it is ok for one to be gay. I know that is what was not intended to happen in this world, but if you look around you can see that a lot was not intended to happen in this world and yet people do not look down on those things. You might not be gay or your friend might not be gay but that does not mean you cannot be opened minded on that subject. I believe that if it is not you or you are not that one that is gay, you don’t have to have an opinion on it. Some people cannot help the fact that they are gay. It is just how they feel and it is hard for them to try to change. I know if someone made me try to like girls, I could not do it. I have a gay friend named Evan. He is one of my best friends and I will never look down on him because he is gay. I actually am very proud of the fact that he came out and showed what he believed and did not care about what other people think, because he knows that what people think will never stop what he feels. I know some people do not agree with gays and cannot help it, but I do not think that they should try and try and change the way a gay feels because the gay is not trying to change the way that person feels about them being gay.
